Large & Small we groom them ALL
We are pleased to announce that we are now back in the large breed business. For medical reasons we had to take a one year "paws" on booking dogs over 50 lbs. That is now behind us and we are able to accept new clients with their larger dogs. Call the salon to make arrangements for an appointment. Or by all means try our on line booking option. Looking forward to seeing you again soon!

Introducing Andrea
I held out for a good match and stumbled across Andrea at the end of August. Through the grooming net work that exists world wide, we connected. She started in the salon on September 6th 2011. Which is quite interesting as I opened the shop on September 6th 1996! Maybe Andrea will be with us for another fun filled 15 years! Andrea has been grooming dogs for the past 11 years in the Toronto, Markham & Richmond Hill areas. She loves the terrier group which pleases me as terriers are …
The best Christmas EVER!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year We groomed our last dog of the yesterday and we are now closed for the holidays. The shop will reopen on Tuesday January 4, 2011. It was a pleasant and successful Christmas rush for everyone at TLC. Leah flew in from the University of Nova Scotia on Thursday and had her apron on and ready to go by 7:00 am on Friday. Brad was struggling through his nasty exams but managed to help us out through the last few days. Joleen and I would not have been able to make it without …
Your Dog's Nails & The Importance of Their Regular Maintenance
The nails are a common topic of discussion in the shop with owners. I figured this a great place to put some of the concerns, facts and misconceptions on the blog for everyone to read. The most common complaint from dog owners is that the nails are too long. Or they feel that they were not cut short enough. The next most common statement is “we tried to cut them ourselves ONCE, we won’t do that again!” So these are the top three dog owner issues about nails. It is my opinion that when …
Christmas Appointments
Christmas Is HERE! Merry Christmas to everyone, have a safe and happy holiday. I know some of you think it a bit strange to send well wishes when it’s only the 7th of December. Thing is, we start booking for Christmas in July. Those that are in for grooming in the summer pre book their next appointment for September and generally book their Christmas hair cut at the same time. As of September we typically run out of spots for the entire month of December. This year is no different. Our next …
The Myth That Grooming The Dog In Winter Is Harmful!
Every year I battle this myth. Well, I battle a lot of myths but this one is in the top five and it is the number ONE reason for The Smoothie shave each spring. So let’s get started. If your dog is groomed in December, you should be back in the shop no longer than 8-10 weeks later. That is February folks, yes, right in the dead of winter, your dog needs a hair cut…. absolutely positively crucial for several reasons. Most of you want the dog put into a longer style as we approach September …
The Winds of Change
In the middle of designing a new site some changes in the shop also emerged. Our beloved Joleen is leaving us. For five years that girl has talked to me about opening her own shop. Of course, I've encouraged her with every single thought or idea that she has put out there. After I took a small vacation and she took a few days off, we both had an epiphany. This assembly line way of grooming dogs was no longer something that either of us wanted to do. A typical day consists of a phone ringing off the …
Improving Our Web Presence
I decided that our web site needed to change; focusing less on business and more on education and awareness. After half a decade, here we are still frustrated with web site hosting and designers. Each day as I groom dogs, I sit and think about what would be good content to add to our web site. So, I decided to design and manage my own site. This way when things are not done to my satisfaction I'm the one to be frustrated with. An enormous task for someone who is technologically challenged and electronically stunted!
After much thought, I decided the best method of getting information and knowledge out there was to write a blog. People may not want to read any of it, some may be quite interested. Who knows, lets' give it a try and see what happens. Give us you feed back when you arrive for your next appointment. |
